Important Information for Students
“Spirit Gear” is a must for the opening ceremonies. Spirit gear is noise makers, glow sticks, bells, banners, and school clothing. Be as creative as you can, the more noise and school spirit you can show the better. Each school is asked to prepare a school cheer that shows off your school spirit. You will have a chance to show off your spirit gear and your school cheer at our opening ceremonies when you are introduced.
You will need a lot of casual clothes. Friday and Saturday are filled with activities and you do not want to be restricted because of your clothes. So wear clothes that allow you to get into the action! For this reason, stilettos, skirts, dresses, etc. may not be the most practical choices.
Friday night, the will have a themed dance. Costumes and themes will include anything related to Newfoundland culture. Your costume can be related to Sou'westers, mummers, peas pudding, or anything you can think of that represents our unique Newfoundland culture. Be as creative as possible - let your roots inspire you!
This year we will be sharing our caring across Newfoundland. We ask that each delegate please bring a small teddy bear or stuffed animal. We will be donating all stuffies to the Ronald McDonald House in St. John's. Hopefully, our school spirit can reach across the island to brighten a sick child's day.
On Saturday night, our closing banquet is SEMI-FORMAL. This means giving your dressy wear a chance to shine! No tuxedos or gowns necessary, but put in a little extra effort! After our banquet, we are having a Much Music dance.
Don’t forget to be respectful to your billets. After all, they welcomed you into their home with open arms. You are required to follow their rules and all of the conference curfews. It is appropriate to give a card or some token of appreciation to your billets at the end of your stay. Also, please don’t forget to thank them upon departure from the conference.
Don’t forget to bring your cameras! Let’s face it: you will want to add pics to Facebook and you may need it for certain sessions. Surely there will be memories you will want to capture so you can remember them forever and new friends you will want to tag.
Please pay special attention to the notes attached to your registration for concurrent sessions. Some of the sessions may have special items for attendance (ie: rubber boots, outside rain gear, etc)
We also ask that each delegate bring a 5x7 laminated picture of his/herself to pass in during registration. Please ensure that your name is on the front bottom of the picture. You can use a label to do this. The picture will be posted during the conference.
Once registered, you should follow us on Twitter (@PSLC2014) and add us on Facebook. (PSLC 2014)
Finally, there is only one bit of advice we can give you: this conference can only be as fun as you want it to be! This conference can be one of the most memorable experiences of your life if you take advantage of all that it has to offer. PSLC 2014, for the very first time, is being held on the Great Northern Peninsula. We are excited to show you our part of the island and invite you to join us in getting back to your roots!
